Healing Ceremonies: Viewing, Funeral, Memorial

Many times, families discount the value of ceremonies after the death of a loved one for a number of reasons that might seem valid at the time.  Often, however, they don’t realize that they only get one chance to celebrate their loved one’s life.

  • Perhaps the death was unexpected and the toll of grief on the family is just too great to allow them to make arrangements.
  • Sometimes the death occurs away from home and/or many family members are scattered over long distances and cannot travel to pay their respects.

In the depth of early grief, you might think it would be easier to just handle disposition of the body through burial or cremation as quickly as possible. But in this case, easier isn’t better and could be much worse.

Ceremonies following the death of a loved one can vary from traditional to contemporary, formal to informal, public to private, religious to secular, expensive to inexpensive; and they take many forms, as follows.

  • Funeral ceremony
  • Visitation / Viewing
  • Memorial ceremony
  • Burial ceremony
  • Others as desired

Regardless of the type and circumstances of ceremonies, having one or more ceremonies to honor the life and pay respects to the death of a loved one has been found to be essential to grieving and to allowing the family and friends to begin to heal.

We at the Koller Funeral Home and Cremation Center are here to help.  Please feel free to contact us anytime to discuss how we can make the process of arranging to honor your loved one easier for you and your family.
