Burial vs. Cremation

Your next consideration is about choosing between burial and cremation.  As you pre-plan your funeral, you can clearly state how you wish to be cared for and save your family what can often be a difficult decision upon your death.  You have the peace of knowing you’ve also avoided possible family conflict, should there be a division of opinion over the final choice when the time comes.

Your choice of cremation or burial is a personal one.  It can take some time to arrive at your decision, considering all the personal, financial, societal and religious beliefs you’ll have to weigh.

Once you do arrange at your decision, the finer details come into focus.

If you choose cremation, then you’ll need to decide how your cremated remains will be cared for; and you will have many choices.

Will cremated remains be kept in an urn?

  • Your urn may be placed in a columbarium where your loved ones may visit to remember you.
  • Your urn may be buried in a cemetery, perhaps a family plot.
  • Your urn may be kept in some other significant location such as the home of a loved one.

Will your remains be scattered by air or over land or water?

If burial is your choice, then you’ll need to consider selection of a casket as well as a cemetery and a burial plot.
